The ancient city of Lincoln was the site of a Bronze Age settlement, and in the 3rd century, was one of the provincial capitals of Roman Britain. In the Middle Ages it was the center of Lindsey, a famous Anglo-saxon kingdom. After the Norman conquest, it grew increasingly important and was known for its cathedral and castle.
Much of the past remains in Lincoln today to delight visitors who wander past half-timbered Tudor houses, the Norman castle, and the towering Lincoln Cathedral. Lincoln maintains a country town atmosphere and extends welcoming arms to tourists.
Quaint cobbled streets lead up to our hotel which was endowed with its emblem by Richard II when he stayed in 1372. The present building reflects the stature of its noble heritage and presents a comfortable, refined ambience ideal for both business and pleasure. There are mellow interiors with a fine collection of antique furnishings and a collection of valuable Rockingham china.

Visible from 48km away, it's the second tallest in England. Construction begun in 1072, and was consecrated 20 years later. In the Treasury is fine silver plate from the churches of the diocese.

Lincoln castle Distance: 1 miles
Built by William the Conqueror in 1068 on a site occupied since Roman times. On the larger of the two mottes a 15-sided keep was built. The castle acted as the city's prison between 1787 and 1878.
